Sharps and flats are shown by arrows
Move your hand in the direction of the arrow to find your note.
Sharps
An arrow pointing forward as you read means move your hand to the higher note.
This note is F#. To find it, we need to find the blue circle (F) and move our hand up to the black note of F#.
Flats
An arrow pointing backwards means you move your hand to the lower note.
This note is Bb. To find it, we need to find the green circle (B) and move our hand down to the black note of Bb.
This is much more intuitive than the abstract symbols used in standard notation. You can start to introduce these at a later stage.
When playing wind and brass instruments, players learn a new fingering for these notes.
Sneak in your music theory
We remove key signatures in stages 1 and 2. You play what is written, while learning about the relationship between different notes.
By removing the abstract codes, we build fundamental musical knowledge. This makes it easier to understand when key signatures are introduced.
